The
Chairperson of the Cameroon Human Rights Commission (CHRC), Professor James
Mouangue Kobila, received in audience Mr Zhang Guohong, the Deputy Director
General of TIEC-CAM on Wednesday, 22 November 2023 at 2:30pm.
The
objective of the visit was to discuss about the ongoing construction building of
the head office of the CHRC. The delegation of 8 persons was led by Mr Zhang who
expressed his joy of visiting Cameroon (not the first time) and particularly
the Commission, after the positive reports he has received from Mr Lee (the
Cameroon Manager) regarding the Commission. He said that they continue to rely
on the support of the Commission in order to ensure that the construction
project is completed as early as possible.
He
pleaded with the Commission to make available funds to hasten the completion of
the building. He reiterated that, the lateness of payments slows down
the work at the construction site and increases cost. Thus, the project
should be presented to the Government alongside their challenges, so that the
budget can be made available for them in due course to complete the work. He
then urged the Chairperson to take necessary steps to assist them accelerate
the completion of the building and to conclude on the two additional floors
that should be added so as to prevent any slowdown of the work.
The
Chairperson said he was glad to receive the guests and had visited China in
June 2023 to attend a Forum on Global Human Rights Governance. Given that his
stay was short, he would like to visit another time. He acknowledged their plea
and promised to do everything possible to facilitate the work of TIEC in
completing the head office building. He said he has taken note of their
preoccupation and his team will do all within their means to provide solutions
to the problems that have been raised.
The
meeting came to an end with the exchange of gifts, group photo and interview
with the media.
